Projects

The Finnish Museums Association is the initiator and coordinator of various projects and marketing campaigns, and it conducts different surveys and research within the museum field. The association gathers information on museums´ exhibitions each year and organises a national Museum Week. The Museums Association´s website provides a regularly updated database of publications dealing with museums and museum history. The association manages community relations by participating in national and international cooperation networks. In recent years the Finnish Museums Association has been actively involved in the work of NEMO, Network of European Museum Organisations.

Implemented projects

  • Development project for museum shops 1998-2000 to promote museums´ independent fundraising.

  • Three Scenes of History in collaboration with the Department of History at the University of Helsinki, 2000. The featured scenes and themes were 18th-century Sveaborg, the Senate Square and the 19th century, and the Railway Square and the 20th century. The events were part of the Helsinki 2000 Cultural Capital programme.

  • A project for the digitising of museum collections, Myytti 1997-2002.

  • Quality competitions for the museum field in 2001 and 2003.

  • National visitor surveys in 1984, 1992, 2002.

  • Museum Publication competition, every second year since 1992-
